10 years ago, I set off on a walk from the NEC in Birmingham to Excel in East London to raise money for Blood Cancer UK and save £40 on a single Virgin Rail train ticket. A decade on and I felt it was time for a new challenge, motivated by the huge toll we have taken, and continue to take, to our mental health.
The plan is that this summer I will join with other professional coaches to cover London by walking a route above ground tracing as much of the 402km network as possible. Whilst we walk each line we will offer our time to coach clients, old and new, with all fees donated to a mental health charity (the charity will be confirmed soon).
At this stage I am inviting fellow coaches to offer their time and pick a route. Clients will then be able to book a time along your route and accompany you on a literal and metaphorical coaching journey. For those in my coaching network who live outside London, I would love you to get involved as well and would invite you to consider creating a walking route near you.
Coaching outdoors can bring a wonderful dynamic to the process, whether that be goal setting by the beach or Systems Thinking between South Harrow and Sudbury Hill. There are some great articles focused on the value of walking and coaching, including this one on the ICF website
If you are a coach who would like to get involved in 'Walk the Lines' please get in touch. You can reach me at matt@ideasacademy.co.uk
